Food Drive & SNAP Access Resources During the Shutdown

community food drive fulfill nj at mics office drop off locations

Supporting Our Community

As food insecurity grows due to the ongoing government shutdown and potential delays in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, we are doing what we can to support families in our local community.

We understand how stressful and destabilizing these disruptions can be, and want to be part of the solution for residents of Monmouth and Ocean Counties.

Why This Food Drive Matters

The New Jersey Department of Human Services recently announced that if the federal shutdown continues, SNAP benefits for November 2025 may not be available on time. While any funds loaded onto EBT cards prior to October 31, 2025 will remain accessible, it’s uncertain when new benefits will be issued after November 1. This puts many families in a vulnerable position, especially those who rely on SNAP to feed their households.

To help bridge this gap and ensure our neighbors have access to essential nutrition, MICS has partnered with Fulfill NJ to launch a community food drive running from October 20 through November 14, 2025.

How You Can Help

We invite all clients, community members, and local partners to participate in our food drive by donating non-perishable items at either of our office locations:

  • 2517 Highway 35, Suite 201D, Manasquan, NJ 08736 [Directions]
  • 337 Drum Point Road, Suite 2B, Brick, NJ 08723 [Directions]

Donation bins are clearly marked at both locations. If you’re visiting us for a wellness group, you can even attend for free in exchange for a food donation during this time.

Bonus: Raffle Entry for Donors

For every 10 items donated from the “most needed items” list, you’ll receive 1 entry into our $100 Visa Gift Card raffle. Be sure to notify a staff member when dropping off your donation to receive your raffle ticket. If no staff are present, simply complete a slip and place it in the on-site lockbox.

Most Needed Food Items

To ensure donations make the most impact, we are specifically collecting:

  • Canned tuna, chicken, salmon
  • Canned vegetables
  • Cooking oils
  • 100% fruit juice
  • Hot cereals (like oatmeal or farina)
  • Cold cereals (w/ whole grain as the 1st ingredient)
  • Canned soups
  • Ready-to-eat canned meals (e.g., chili, stew, ravioli)

Please prioritize low-sodium and low-sugar options when possible.

Additional Support for Families

In addition to our food drive, MICS is committed to raising awareness of local food banks and SNAP program updates. Families who may be impacted by SNAP delays can check benefit status at njfamiliesfirst.com or call 800-997-3333 for support.
